Process-Based Pathways to Self-Compassion in Neurodivergent People – Online, 5th & 6th June 2026
Invited Online Pre-Conference Workshop for the ACBS World Conference in Lyon, July 2026
Neurodivergent people face unique and persistent barriers to self-compassion. Growing up in a world that doesn’t accept or accommodate their needs, many Autistic people and ADHDers internalise stigma and ableist attitudes leading to chronic self-criticism, shame, and reduced wellbeing. The research is clear: this takes a serious toll on mental and physical health.
Compassion-focused approaches can help, but only when they’re grounded in neurodivergent experience and neurobiological reality.
This practical, process-based workshop gives you the conceptual framework and clinical tools to help your neurodivergent clients move from harsh self-judgment toward genuine self-acceptance.
You’ll focus on four processes that are essential to self-compassion — and rarely covered in professional training:
- Interoceptive awareness of personal needs
- Emotional awareness in the context of alexithymia
- Intentional sensory self-soothing
- Strengths-based approaches to executive functioning
Through 7.5 hours of interactive online learning, you’ll develop skills to help clients transform self-stigma and internalised ableism into psychological wellbeing, radical self-acceptance, and pride in their neurodivergent identity. Participants will receive a comprehensive resource pack including e-books, client handouts, and worksheets.
Come join me! Everyone is welcome.
