Resource: Reasonable Adjustments for ADHDer Students

Reasonable Adjustments for ADHDer Students

ADHD is defined as difficulties with executive functioning, particularly attention and impulsivity/hyperactivity. Subtle distractions that others may not notice can be very disruptive for an ADHDer, scattering their attention and derailing their learning. Restlessness and impulsivity can make it harder to stay focused and ‘on task.’

Yet, ADHDers can be creative, resourceful, flexible, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and excellent visual and experiential learners. Strategies that help ADHDers focus their attention, understand expectations, and lower demands on working memory will benefit all learners. Therefore, accommodations and supports should be tailored to address the individual’s specific needs, reviewed regularly, and adjusted when needs change. This resource provides a list of possible adjustments and accommodations that can help ADHDers succeed in their studies.
